The establishment of Kottodi St. Ann’s English Medium School is infact a dream realization for the Rajapuram emigrants as well as the people of diverse religious groups living at Kottodi and in the neighboring places. Realizing the importance of English in today’s life Bishop of Kottayam Diocese Mar Kuriakose Kunnasseri aspired to have an English Medium School for the development of Kottodi. So on 1st January 1996, Rev. Fr. Msgr. Stephen Jayaraj, Director of the Malabar region laid the foundation stone for the School there by fulfilling the Bishop’s aspiration.
The school with a compliment of 30 students and two teachers started functioning in June 1996 under the guidance of the principal Sr. Solly SVM. Following the path to glory, the school with the whole hearted and sincere service of the teachers, priests and sisters, completed the construction of the New Block in the year 1997.
On the 8th January 1997, the new school building was blessed and inaugurated by His Excellency Mar. Kuriakose Kunnasseri. The school at Kottodi which opted ICSE syllabus is named after St. Anna Umma. Initially classes began in this school following the State Syllabus. The temporary recognition was granted for classes 5 to 7 on 1st June 1997. Following which, on 29th September 1998, permanent recognition was granted. (No. CDIS 1152/98 dtd 29-9-98). After a series of efforts put in by the then authorities to get recognition from the ICSE Board, the school was given the same in March 2008 when Rev. Fr. Binu Valavumkal took position as the Principal of the School.
St. Ann’s School which plays a significant role in the growth and development of the students of Rajapuram region is blessed with 22 classrooms, 3 laboratories, one library and a computer lab. Basic education being the prime goal, KG section is functioning in a separate building under the leadership of sisters.
The students residing as far as 38 KM are reaping the benefit of the school. From nursery to 10th approximately 625 students are studying in the school. Altogether 33 teaching staff and 4 non-teaching staff are in this institution. The school owns 4 buses also.
Under the leadership of Rev. Fr. John Kaniyarkunnel, Rev. Fr. Thomas Kumbakkal, Rev. Fr. Lijo Kochuparambil, Rev. Sisters and teachers, the school provides value based quality education to the students. At present Mr. M G Joseph Malamburam is appointed as the principal of the school.
